Gucci SS18 – Milan Fashion Week

Gucci took the fashion world by storm ever since the presence of Alessandro Michele. I have to say that every single season, it’s pleasure to kick off Fashion Week with this incredible show. I’m a lover of his philosophy and how he makes it evolve within his own world. “When you watch the show you can see what I’m trying to do: I want to stay in my aesthetic. I don’t want to run because I know the company works in a very fast way”.

I was very excited to get to the show as it was taking place at the fashion house’s new HQ. The setup was incredible. It was museum inspired, taking us to different eras of the past, with monuments from Egypt, Greece and other remind us of the Romans. The catwalk was blue and gave us the illusion that models were walking on a river, taking them from a time to frame another. The seat number were actual museum entry cards! Every detail counts.

  • Many pieces in the collection reminded us again that Alessandro Michele is very inspired by couture because most pieces were very intricate and subtle with heavy embroideries and sparkling details. Of course there was also many tailored pieces and sharp suits.

  • If you are a fan, you already know that nothing speaks Gucci more than big bows on the waist, stacking up necklaces and accessories and going for pieces with a lot of sequins.

  • Many looks were accessorised with these Asian hats that were very intriguing. This detail added mystery to most looks and reminded us again that fashion is for all. And since Alessandro loves couture, we saw a series of maxi dresses embroidered and ready to be worn for a wedding or a gala night.

  • Gucci completed the looks with over-sized bags and I personally loved how there are always so many accessories put together like huge necklaces, several bags and crystallized sunglasses.

We end this review with a special note about the styling, because it really reflects the aesthetic of the brand. If someone else was doing it we would say that it’s too much, but with Gucci and Alessandro Michele it’s exactly what we want to see: A crazy imaginary world that hypnotises us every single round.
