The menswear-inspired long gilet (also called sleeveless coat) is my ideal ‘outfit-savior-item’ of the season. Yes, we all have these little seasonal pieces that we love styling in more than a way, by matching it with contrasting pieces, by accessorizing it. I always have this piece in my closet that I call “outfit-savior”, I should be able to throw it over a dress or match it with pants/shorts, whatever is the way, it has to be a piece that could match many looks that would come to my mind. I’m weird, I know. But I mean, we all have those days when we wake up and all we can think is “I don’t have anything to wear!”, “I’m not in the mood for a dress”, “I’m feeling too curvy in pants!”. The list goes on.
The weather was beautiful during Fashion Week in Paris and I loved going for this piece that’s just right when it’s not sweater weather yet we need that transitional piece. I love Elie Saab’s approach to classy and versatile ready-to-wear, hence, I couldn’t resist matching this gilet with pants from the same color. I opted for the classic white shirt and nude pumps to keep everything else simple, especially that this shade of blue is quite a statement. My statement pair of earrings came to add a little color in that early fall mood. You could wear this gilet to an important work event as much as you could wear it to a huge dinner at night.
What’s the main tip when styling a sleeveless coat? Always layer it! Contrast solid colors. Avoid prints. And, you can rock it with your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans and ankle boots over the weekend! Time for a fall wardrobe game.
I am wearing: matching Elie Saab gilet, pants & clutch from the Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, white Zara shirt, Dolce&Gabbana earrings, Dior nude pumps.
