Here’s to a show I wasn’t supposed to be covering! Imagine my surprise when I get a call the morning of the fashion show telling me I have less than an hour to get ready, pick up my invite and get on location. I still can’t realize that I made it! It was amazing! I want to thank Bouchra (Aishti), Sandra and Josette (LVMH Dubai) for the great opportunity.
The chosen venue was the Palais National des Invalides. As soon as I entered the space, I was in awe. The setting was filled with enormous silver balloons and mirrors for a metallic effect all over. It was so much fun walking through the venue that I actually lost my way twice while walking to my seat because of all the reflections. Such a playful idea as later during the show, as the models walked down we could see them in the silver balloons beforehand. Excellent graphic effect!
As for the collection, everyone agreed that it was Raf Simon’s best work for Dior so far. There was a lot of nude pink, houndstooth patterns and voluminous skirts and corsets. The elegance and femininity of the modern women were celebrated. Architecture was clearly one of Simon’s inspiration for Fall Winter 2013 as most details exuded about strong graphism.
I fell in love with the “talon virgule” or curved-heeled shoes. I think they just looked gorgeous with every single outfit. They will also be produced using fishnet fabrics, snakeskin and many other. As for the bags, I particularly LOVED the Lady Dior which with an Andy Warhol shoe sketch printed on them (this is the result of a collaboration with the Andy Warhol foundation). This sketch was also seen on dresses. Discover the collection in pictures below:
