At first glance, Vauthier’s haute couture show could be mistaken for ready-to-wear. It had this strong Los Angeles/Hollywood vibe with flowy leather fringes, tailored black and white jackets, micro wrapped dresses, luxe body con pieces, feather earrings, gold sandals.
I think the strength of this collection is in how the couture existed through the use of several textures together: velvet, fur, leather, silk and the wrapped dresses that were embellished to mimic crocodile skin (these required up to 1,600 hours of handiwork!).
I liked the fringed belts, the asymmetrical hems and every single pair of shoes (a new collaboration). The show ended on a golden note with a perfect fully embroidered wrapped dress with a very deep plunge line for sophisticated sex appeal.
I just love it when couture is modernized, given a more practical approach, when it looks more like ready-to-wear yet is so couture with the use of different textures/fabrics/materials.
