Tricks and Trends: New York Fashion Week main trends

The fabulous New York fashion week will be our first reference for spring/summer 2012. Today’s thursday train trends, it is thus time to spot the main tendencies on the catwalks.

Ready, set and go! Checkout these 12 trends that rocked New York’s runaways.

1-Peplums are back! For seasons they were inexistent and now a skirt can’t be complete without one. It also comes now in different shapes and sizes.

As seen at: Jason Wu, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Preen, Vera Wang, Cushnie et Ochs.

2-The centre parting is the hair style for the season. And if you want to excel in style, wear your hair in a centre parting and tie it loosely at the nape of your neck.

As seen at: Carolina Herrera, Band of Outsiders, Michael Kors, Rag & Bone, Reed Krakoff, Tommy Hilfiger.

3-Even for Spring/summer 2012, it is all about prints. Times have come where you’re not afraid to go prints from head-to-toe. Make sure to wear them big and bold as well.

As seen at: DKNY, Diane von Furstenberg, Rodarte, Peter Som.

4Mesh knits are one great way to layer up for spring/summer. Make the most of your mesh by using it to show a little skin or a pop of colour from lower layers.

As seen at: Alexander Wang, Derek Lam, Rag & Bone

5-Candy coloured hair reigned on New York catwalks. Even American model Charlotte Free kept her loud pink locks on the Marchesa runway.

As seen at: Thakoon, Marchesa, Chris Benz.

6-Orange is the future! From the clearest peach to bold tangerine, the zesty hue comandeered the catwalks.

As seen at: Jenny Packham, Charlotte Ronson, BCBG Max Azria, Derek Lam, Jil Stuart.

7-The high-low, or ‘mullet’ dress is now slowly making its way right into our closets. This gorgeous asymmetric silhouette easily transforms from day-to-night.

As seen at: DKNY, Jason Wu, Narciso Rodriguez, Thakoon, Y3.

8-The dip-dye may have been the fashion pack’s favourite hair style this year, but for spring/summer 2012 the effect has cropped up on the catwalk. Beware: keep other colours to a minimum.

As seen at: Edun, Band of Outsiders, Prabal Gurung.

9-Again, white ruled the spring/summer catwalks. With this classic trending year after year, you must start investing in some wonderful white pieces!

As seen at: Altuzarra, Jeremy Laing, The Row.

10-Tribal and animal prints have given many of the spring/summer shows an African theme. Wear this trend with caution, check out my previous articles on how to wear these types of prints.

As seen at: Donna Karan, Edun, Michael Kors, Suno, Proenza Schouler.

11-With pretty pastels, ave there is a very pretty and girly spirit to the spring/summer runaways. You can wear these colors head-to-toe or mix them with whites.

As seen at: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Preeen, Proenza Schouler, Victoria Beckham.

12-Sportswear has always been American’s favorite and it can’t be an exception this year. Mix basic and loose-fitting pieces of clothing to achieve this very relaxed and laidback look.

As seen at: Helmut Lang, Victoria Beckham, Rag & Bone, Theyskens’ Theory.

I really can’t freaking wait to discover about the upcoming fashion weeks! Stay tuned babies.
