“I have always imagined Paradise to be a kind of library” – Jorje Luis Borjes, Poema de los dones.
I fell in love with the new Sonia Rykiel space at the brand’s iconic boutique on 175 boulevard Saint-Germain. I have to say that I’m more of a “rive gauche” kind of girl, I love how this part of Paris is all about literature, art, the free mind. During my last stay in Paris, I was so happy to get to discover the transformation of the Sonia Rykiel store into a boutique/bookshop composed of more than 50,000 books. This installation is a collaboration of artistic director Julie De Libran with the director-publisher Thomas Lenthal and artist Andre Saraiva.
I also enjoyed playing dress up and as always, Hana was with me to capture these little candid moments. My favorite part of this new set up was to look through the books, trying to catch titles I’ve already read and others very intriguing that I had never come across. The avid reader in me was in heaven. The little secret about this shop is that when you enter you will fall in love with the scent of the boutique. I loved learning that it was specifically created with perfumer Daniela Andrier, beautiful notes of rosewater, mandarin, vetiver and jasmine will make you smile.
Nowadays, fashion is going at a crazy rate and with the proliferation of visuals on social media with tools like Instagram and others, people see everyday more than they should. There is sometimes no knowledge of the brand in question and the essence of certain labels is lost. I love the authenticity of Sonia Rykiel and how throughout the years it had stayed very true to its identity yet it went through several changes until today. This boutique is my definition of paradise and I wish I could have all these books and spend my days just reading, writing and trying on beautiful pieces. You must “read” this shop.
