Saudi Artist Abdullah Qandeel in Manhattan

Good morning everyone. Today, we’re up for another type of posts on the blog. I always promise to be blogging more often about art and design and here we are with the freshly updated blog, handling the most various topics.

Yesterday, I had an artistic “coup de coeur”. And, of course, as usual, I can’t help but immediately share it with you! I stumbled upon rising Saudi Arabian artist Abdullah Qandeel’s work. I just love his paintings. If you take a closer look at his work (I’ve shared a few ones below), you will see that he usually creates big and bold pieces that reflect both his love of color and a huge sense of introspection, imbued with a prevailing feeling of hope in the power of humanity. His paintings illustrate the explosive contemporary dialogue between Saudi ancestral heritage and the current, seemingly unstoppable trend of globalization. It is important to understand the history of Saudi Arabian art within Qandeel’s work and how that history is now laying down the seeds for the art market of tomorrow. In my (very humble) opinion, it’s very important that each art piece tells a story and that’s what makes Qandeel’s creations stand even more out. Each of his pieces tells the world a story.

The good news is that he has just opened a new show at the Judith Charles gallery in Manhattan and it will be ongoing up until October 19th 2014. This show (“The Scrutineer”) exposes a series of his major artworks exploring life and modern times from his unique perspective as a Saudi artist and citizen of the world. “The Scrutineer” presents a series of works in oil on canvas.
