Le Journal de Lana: L’esprit contre le corps


I’ve been practicing yoga for over two years already but with my hectic schedule, I haven’t been able to attend as many classes as I should/need. Thanks to my best friend, I’ve luckily discovered the Nok Yoga Shala center located in Saifi Village, Beirut. I honestly and genuinely love their classes.

Yesterday, I had the chance to attend one of my favorite classes. In fact, I love it because of how throughout the session, he opens very interesting discussions, challenging us to think about a lot of details we don’t pay attention to during our days. You must all know that yoga is all about concentration and the control of your mind over your body. I think it’s mainly why I adore this exercise, it helps me drain out all the negative energy and concentrate on becoming more and more flexible, more and more in control of my body.

The most striking part of yesterday’s class that I can’t stop thinking about is when the instructor said that all the “solutions lie in the present”. As a human being like any other, my mind is always preoccupied with the perfect mix of elements linked to the past, present and the future. When the yoga instructor said such a thing, it took me a long way deep into my thoughts, leading me to conclude that yes, what he says entirely makes sense. In fact, the “right now” is the only moment coming up with a solution would be optimal. This doesn’t mean that we should always force it and work against the waves, on the contrary, when we let go, the solutions just come right to us, right to our present moment.

At many moments in my life, I found myself struggling to find a solution, forcing myself to come up with millions of “back up plans”. When you allow time and the course of events to eventually present you with a solution, it doesn’t mean you are leaving it to the future. It’s just your mind taking its time to find the right moment to figure it all.
