It’s good to be back from a vacation, especially when Fashion Weeks’ season has kicked off. Spring Summer 2013 might sound quite far but there’s nothing more exciting than digging into next year’s trends as we enter Fall 2012. Brings back a bit of sun!
Rodarte: For embellishment lovers, this is the collection to check out. I really liked the geometric pieces, the strong colors and the very mystical side that some designs had.
DKNY: White cotton shirts, slouchy jeans, jersey dresses and almost-neon lemon yellow reminding us of New York’s yellow taxicabs. Apparently, she has been obsessed with the city cabs for a while!
Catherine Malandrino: The Spring/Summer 2013 looks from Catherine Malandrino were all about embellishments, fringe and cutouts. The designer said she was inspired by the cities she shares her time between, New York City and Paris. All the pieces I want from this collection are definitely the white ones!
Victoria Beckham: I just love her work and I’m in awe with this collection. This time, Victoria explored different horizons as she played with her signature cuts themselves. I like how everything is a little bit more feminine, more feline. Gorgeous pieces and outfits that I want to buy straight off the runway!
Marc Jacobs: This time, the eponym design went for something a bit different. One thing dominated the runway: stripes. Big, small, vertical, horizontal, all the shapes were there.
“No romance, no emotion, just real power and force,” the designer told The Telegraph. “We wanted the girls to have sex appeal without them being vulgar or out there. It was about coolness as opposed to an ass-up sex appeal.”
Zac Posen: Here’s to a show that everyone went crazy about. The cat eye shaped shades, the satin shoes, the structured hips, the satin gowns but especially the jade silk taffeta gown left us wanting more. It was really all about the aesthetic vintage. Some argued that there was no “wow” factor but everything about this collection screams the designer’s own identity and this is what I look for in fashion.
Jason Wu: It was black on black on black and some white on everything at Jason Wu’s catwalk show, with a collection centered on leather with lace in-lays and spiked heels. Peplums were featured on dresses, skirts, and trousers; the hair, make up and cinched in waists added a hint of a femme fetale. I would even go on saying that this is one of my fav collections of this #nyfw edition.
Phillip Lim: This time, it was an exploration of ‘cut-up’, which essentially had Lim take what, to the untrained eye, would have been completely unrelated patterns and piece them back together in the most ingenious ways. What a fantastic concept!!
I especially fell in love with the “nueva york” tees, I want one of these!
Marchesa: such a glam show just as usual. The main colors were white, different shades of blue, coral and pink. This collections took us to India with all the sari-like dresses. I really liked the new cuts and shapes that the brand tried out. Here are few of my favorites.
As you can see, I tried to cover the few shows that caught my attention the most and will be tackling the rest as we approach Spring Summer 2013.
Can’t wait for the other Fashion Weeks!!
