Lana reviews: Black for the Baftas 2012

The Bafta Film Awards 2012 was full of glamourous arrivals and a triumphant ceremony, especially for the winners of the gold masks.

Looking through the pictures, I’ve noticed that black gowns overshadowed the red carpet; I must admit with the seasonal change, it’s a great choice. Personally,  I would have picked something between black and a nude shade; which is something that was also on the red carpet.

To start, here are my favorites in black:

Melissa George in a shimmering black gown by Victoria Beckham

Brown Findlay in an Alessandra Rich dress, I can't explain but I really love this dress on her!! Very chic hair updo

Other beautiful ladies in black; from left to right:

Joanne Froggatt in a Victoria Beckham dress (very elegant pick),

Meryl Streep in Vivienne Westwood,

Christina Hendricks (love the dress for her body shape and her hair looks great)

Elizabeth McGovern in Jacques Azagury.

Gold was also another trend on the carpet and I’ve picked my favorites of all:

Holliday Grainger in a fabulous Valentino dress, very princess like. Love the thick red lipstick.

Kristen Wiig looking very fresh and elegant in this Alberta Ferretti nude dress

As for the colorful dresses, here’s the one I totally fell for, I think Fearne Cotton is looking amazing!

Fearne Cotton in Moschino, WOW ! All the details are perfect.

My best-dressed couples for the Baftas:

Colin Firth in Armani and his wife Livia in a Paul Smith Tuxedo, Roger Vivier pumps and clutch, good alternative!

Gary Oldman with glamorous wife Alexandra Edenborough

Lady in Red: as usual, few celebrities went for classic and sexy red dresses, Penelope Cruz  in Armani was one of them:

Penelope Cruz in a simple strapless Armani gown, she looks good but I think she could have gone for something way better!

The OUT:

from left to right: Olivia Williams, Jessica Chastain in Oscar de la Renta, Emilia Fox in Louisa Beccaria, Laura Bailey (major #fail), Helena Bonham Carter in a Gile Deacon dress, Berenice Bejo.

The Marvelous Men:

Brad Pitt, Georges Clooney in Armani, Michael Fassbender in Giorgio Armani, Jon Hamm (best suit in my opinion) and Kenneth Branagh.

All in all, I think the fashion of this event was a bit boring; even if the black trend gave a super classy note. There were a bit of colors but nothing that I found worth the note. What do you think about these?

Fashionably yours,

                                 Lana xx

Not good.. Not good at all..

    Holliday Grainger looks flawless.
Joanne Froggatt and Alexandra look classy and sophisticated
    Melissa George looks sexy.

    But other than them,
Why are all of the other dresses breathtakingly.. yukky??

Brown Findlay looks like an umbrella.. A pregnant umbrella..
She reminds me of Meryl Streep in the movie Doubt. You don’t want to look like a nun at the Baftas, do you, Brown?
I think the dress would have been alot cuter if it had been short.

Meryl oh Meryl, why are you dressed like that witch from Enchanted?

I’m not even going to start talking about the Outs.

And since I always end my posts with a little comment about Clooney,
Lana, you have showed us how to wear navy and black. But Georges, not all shades of navy and black go together. Why that mix?
And that long blazer, do not close it, and do not put hands in its pockets. You look like Inspector Gadget.

Now that was a long post <3

    1. Hahahaha, so it was to my greatest pleasure to read your comment Lynn!!! I totally agree with you, this edition of the Baftas was extremely disappointing “Fashion-wise” and it got even more disappointing as we watched the Grammys the day after!! George Clooney completely missed on looking like himself this time! Meryl Streep forgot about how to dress her curves! Well, as you’ve said, let’s forget about the outs. Loved that Enchanted link, hahahaha ! You rock! I want more of your posts!! <3
