Here’s to regional brand that I’m very proud of and that I’ve been looking forward featuring on L’Armoire De Lana for a while already. Madiyah Al Sharqi offers delicate effortless evening-wear with a hint of an update. When asked about her work, Madiyah describes it to be the perfect mix between traditional elegance and a little modern edge. Also, Madiyah was recently mentioned as “One of the most exciting and promising designers” of the Arab World by Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
I discovered her Fall Winter 2014 collection during my stay in Paris for the fashion week. I have to say that I love the skirts, tops and dresses she designed. In few words, I could say that it’s all about timeless silhouettes in very fresh pastel/candy colors. The choice of fabrics is also very refined, the quality of the embroideries is simply incredible.
What is interesting about this collection is that we feel it’s a summer collection, especially with the use of white and candy hues. I love the 1960’s print and the oversized dresses. I also love the delicate beadings and some of the very feminine outfits (like the white top and skirt with a little ruffle). Her approach to the asymmetrical trend is beautiful, creating interesting contrasts between an embroidered fabric and another sheer one.
I look forward featuring more regional talents that are truly changing the vision of Arab fashion!
