Alessandro Michele left us in awe again. His magic lanterns walked the runway and left us in wonder. Milan Fashion Week kicked off with an incredible show, and I’m sure you’ve followed all the updates on my social media platforms as well as the closeups I was able to share during the resee.
For Michele, “fashion should be a personal thing” and it’s simply amazing how after three collections, he still delivers his story on the catwalk. Everything about the collection screamed wonderland but not just any, the kind that leaves you bedazzled.
There isn’t just one theme at the heard of this collection, but a series of elements that came together in a lot of harmony.
I loved the series of print created in collaboration with the artist Jayde Fish who reinterpreted some of the Michele’s favorite elements (the snake for example) on silk blouses and skirts. Personally, I found the metallic suits extremely interesting, especially in kaleidoscopic colors. Every evening gown was a statement on its own and we could easily see how each one of them is completely different from the other. The exaggerated puffy sleeves are also something that caught my eyes.
Michele also introduced new animals from his wonderland, the fox, the dragon and the cat; each appearing differently on the ready-to-wear and on the accessories. Speaking of the accessories, it was an explosion of statement pieces on the runway, the styling was perfect and every item caught my attention, especially the slogan belts, the big earrings and the jumbo purses. The “vegas” shoes was, once more, revisited with new beads. The creative director got us used to the perfect balance of feminine and masculine elements which created the right balance with the flow of accessories.
One thing is sure, this show required an incredible amount of work, it’s one of the richest collection I’ve ever seen, from the work on the fabrics to the accessories.
