The Dior SS2017 show was such a celebration welcoming the first woman to ever be the creative director of the fashion house, Maria Grazia Chiuri.
“The message really is that there is not one kind of woman” she said.
Simple practical pieces filled the runway satisfying the unlimited number of eclectic tastes different women might have.
Ruth Bell opened the show in a white jacket and knickerbockers to chock the crowd, who was usually used to more romantic Dior openings. But as the designer envisions it “involves mind and heart at the same time, which women always need if they are to realize themselves.”
What drew my attention the most in this collection was the new line of sneakers and knee length boots decorated with embroidered bees. The bee was always a key element to the fashion house, until Slimane made it an element of the menswear. Nice switch with Chiuri, empowering the modern woman?
Lacy blouses, perfectly embroidered tulle dresses and skirts. Knit dresses, scattered flowers, leaves and insects, full length gowns with tarot card motifs all made the Dior show such a remarkable one.
Mixed reviews for the accessories? Yes, social media and the clients responded in a different way but I believe every new chapter starts with a very surprising tone.
“we should all be feminist”, tees with slogans like these perfectly hid under some pieces.
Feminists, you all have something to wear now don’t you?
