Braids And Feathers

I can never stop describing the beauty of Valentino’s SS16 collection, inspired by my land of birth, Africa. Mother Africa is generous and filled with colors and textures and elements that make a whole world on its own. I was so proud to be dressed in a beautiful SS16 Valentino dress for their FW16 fashion show. I can safely say that the amount of details on this dress make it look like a couture piece (the pictures below speak for themselves).

First, look at the black beads right under the collar, they stand out so beautifully because they contrast with the sheer fabric. They create a beautiful harmony with the fabric used for the sleeves, I love such details. I love the work that comes right under it, creating gorgeous tribal lines, the shapes are very tribal yet look so chic because of the material used. Needless to say that my favorite part is actually the sleeves that end with geometrical shapes of beads and stunning green feathers. Love. Love. Isn’t it so couture? The modern couture of course.

I loved styling this dress with simplicity, minimalistic black sandals and a statement Natalie Trad clutch from her recent collection. All the colors merged so well.

I’ve never given braids a try but it seemed obviously to me that if I was to go on a trip to Africa through this look, I had to add them to my style. This fashion week was all about first times. Not only the braids perfectly matched the tribal mood but they also added a little hint of rock to the look, making it somewhere between romantic, tribal, a little bohemian and edgy.

Modern princesses wear Valentino and that’s how it felt.
