“Pleasures of metamorphosis”
These are the words engraved on the show notes welcoming Pierpaolo Piccoli’s independent taking over the Valentino’s fashion house, after Grazia Churi’s departure to the Dior world of creative direction this summer.
The SS2017 collection painted its pieces with colours from the renaissance like yellow, vermilion, malachine, absinthe and browns, to create a very romantic long sleeved dresses, mostly unique for the high necks, pleated skirts and accompanied with ballet pumps with straps around the ankles.
Valentino’s show continues with the ballerina-inspired softness to create gowns with full tulle skirts and fanned sleeves, perfectly handcrafted embroideries.
On another note, an asymmetric army jacket, a stellar red crochet dress and a magenta cape dress stand out on the runway without breaking the softness and the mood of the whole dreamy collection. In collaboration with Zandra Rhodes, Piccioli created the landscape prints and revisited the art works of early Netherlandish painter Hieronymus Bosch (which I particularly LOVED!).
I have my eyes on the lipstick holder that has a tiny mirror, which can be worn crossed just like a bag. The lipstick will be red (valentino n1); to be more exact, it will be the iconic red of Valentino that we all love. This accessory took social media by storm and I’m sure it’s going to be sold out the minute it hits the boutiques!
Chiuri and Piccioli surely knew how to create wonders together, but today Piccioli’s designs proved that going solo is also a successful choice.
